Overview

Tui Na (pronounced “twee naw”), is a form of “push-pull” massage in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that includes techniques such as rubbing, kneading, and pinching. Tui Na is an ancient form of Chinese physical therapy that is approximately 2,000 years old.

This modality uses traction, massage, and manipulation in conjunction with the stimulation of acupressure points. (American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine)

Tui Na, a form of Massage, along with Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, are the main components of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Tui Na can be used to treat specific areas, or it can be used to improve the overall Qi or energy flow throughout your body. Because Tui Na is a complete system, the treatment often helps both these components at the same time.

Tui Na is thought to be the oldest system of bodywork practiced today. (Acupuncture Massage College, Miami, FL)

Tui Na, or Tuina, is a therapeutic form of Massage and has been used in China for more than 5,000 years. Defined as “the ancient healing art of fingers and strength,” Tui Na (pronounced “twee nah”) has been gaining international attention for its safe and effective treatment for a wide variety of conditions. Tui Na Massage Therapy is used for giving special treatments to people of all ages, from infancy to old age.

Practitioners use their finger(s), hand(s), elbow, knee or foot to apply pressure to a specific body location. This Complementary and Alternative Chinese Medicine modality makes use of rhythmic compression techniques along different energy channels of your body to establish harmonious flow of qi throughout your body and bring it back to balance.

By applying pressure to meridians, acupoints, and groups of muscles and nerves, Tui Na removes blockages and works deeply with the positive energy of your body. (Pacific College of Health and Science)

Tuina or Tui-Na (pronounced twee-nah) massage originated in ancient China and is believed to be the oldest system of bodywork. It’s one of the four main branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), along with Acupuncture, Qi Gong, and Chinese Herbal Medicine.

Tui-Na is based on the theory that imbalances of qi, which is your body’s vital life force or energy, can cause blockages or imbalances that lead to symptoms such as pain and illness.

Tui-Na massage stimulates the flow of qi to promote balance and harmony within your body using many of the same principles of Acupuncture.

It’s similar to Acupuncture in that it targets specific acu-points, but Practitioners use fingers instead of needles to apply pressure to stimulate these points. Tui-Na massage is often used in combination with Acupuncture.
